Why does Modi Want to Be God? After repeated arguments and videos on internet treating modi as god or ansh of other avatars and remarks by the peoples, the quetion is ultimately formed and I tried answer it with historical understanding.
Before I begin answering it with my openion, answer this first: what is the name of your Aradhya Devata?
Now for example, my own Aradhya Devata (Kuladevata) is Tulja Bhavani, which most Marathi peoples, no matter what caste they belongs too, would recognise and agree with. In other case, people may name Vishnu or his avatars like Krishna, Rama, or others; Mahadev, Hanuman, or other forms of Kali Mata or other deitys. In case you are Muslim, you would answer nothing but the name of Allah. If you are Buddhist, you would answer Buddha, and Christians, Parsis, Jains, or followers of other religion would have different names accordingly to their beliefs.
Now if you have answered the name of your Aradhya Devata, Recently a video of Kangana Ranaut, where she claims something diffrent regarding Aradhya Devata – ‘that she considers Modiji her Aradhya Devata also many other peoples too, and that you cannot curse him or use bad words against him.’
Now we have to think – why did Kangana talked like this? It is clear she is a sound person, and she could not have said something like this without any second thought. Most probably she is speaking on behalf of her party, ideology, or the propaganda (पाखंड) they want to spread.
The propaganda basically proclaims that Modiji is not just a human being like you and me, but that he is something more than that. This idea is reflected in the words used by himself: sometimes he feels like he is a non-biological person.
Even though we laughed and criticised it at that time, here are the repercussions of that statement. In my opinion, this comment about being a non-biological person became nothing but a foundation stone for their propaganda and narrative-building.
Now the question is simple – if a person is in power, is the head of the government, and hold enormous state power as the Prime Minister of this country, why would he want to represent himself as God or some kind of avatar or non-biological being, or anything beyond a normal human being? Answer we get to become god is nothing but : Incompetency!
For example, historically this is not the first time a ruler has wanted to become God, a godlike person, non-human, or something beyond ordinary humanity.
Emperor Ashoka took the title “Devanam Priya Priyadarshi Raja” — through this title he represented himself as beloved of the Gods and a ruler choosen with divine approval, which strengthend his authority to rule and encouraged people to follow his commands.
Similarly many ancient kings linked themselves to the Chandravanshi or Suryavanshi traditions to show people they were more than ordinary humans, being direct heirs of the Moon and the Sun.
Similarly in ancient and medival Chinese history, it was believed the king ruled only through the will and blessings of Heaven, which knon as Mandate of Heaven. When Heaven withdrawed its support, the empire could transfer to another ruler. This meant the person in power was considered to have a relativly closer relationship with divine authority than ordinary peoples.
In ancient and medival Indian history, there is also evidence showing rulers claimed there authority through temple gods, such as the Cholas, Cheras, and Pandyas of South India.
In medival history, one great example is Mughal Emperor Akbar, who claimed he was the shadow of Allah on Earth. This idea gave him authority to rule. It represented him as more then an ordinary man.
Also if we go through the history of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, we see that Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj and Maratha rulers were devoted to Tulja Bhavani. One famous belief is that Goddess Tulja Bhavani herself gave the sword to Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, which symbolicaly represented that Shivaji Maharaj had divine support, authority, and power to rule. This again presented him as more then just an ordinary man.
Also the British Empire justify its rule through the ideology of the “White Man’s Burden,” but the British Crown also drew legitimacy from long-standing traditions that portrayed the monarch as ruling “by the Grace of God.” Together, these ideas helped present British imperial rule as having a higher moral and divinely sanctioned purpose rather than being merely political.
Now from all these examples, one thing becomes clear i.e. historically, attempts to present rulers as non-human or closer to God are hundreds in number. But what about post-independence or in a democratic India?
There are some refrences regarding Indira Gandhi, that she was not considered a very religious person, but after the death of Sanjay Gandhi, she followed certain religous practices for the protection of her family, which were not more than the worships or other. Similarly, during P. V. Narasimha Rao’s period as Prime Minister, he consulted astrologers for deciding auspicious timings (Muhurtas). However, no leader had ever attempted to claim they were non-biological, either personaly or through a Member of Parliament from there party, as Kangana Ranaut has done.
What would happen if this propaganda becomes successfull?
- Are we allowed to commit blasphemy against God in India? The answer is no. So would we also become unable to criticise Modi?
- People who stand against God are not called opposition but are often described as Asuras or evils, which is completly against the spirit of democracy. You cannot question God; similarly you cannot question Modi either.
- You cannot demand accountability from God because people believe God’s actions have a larger purpose and are ultimatly for the good of humanity.
- Becoming both God and Prime Minister at the same time would represent a level of power beyond what even many authoritarian rulers have achieved.
Hence, I think Modi wants to become God because he wants to remain unquestioned, unaccountable, and permanently devoted in the opinions of people, no matter what the reality of his actions may be.
It seems government is trying so hard to sell the divinity of Modi but, people of India still refusing to buy it.
